Throughout history, reform movements, as they influence the evolution of governments and social structures, have been dominant forces for new ideas, new truths and more enlightened ways to facilitate positive change for advancement. With no timely reform, governments and organizations have perished. This is a truth that has been repeated over and over throughout history. In the TAEKWONDO arena, the prolonged denial of democratic principles in the governance of the organization has seriously hindered its pace of progress. With the denial of democracy comes an inherent loss of dignity, equality and mutual respect that is damaging Taekwondo’s value as a sport and a system of martial art education with the potential to contribute substantially to the framework of education as a whole. The World Alliance for Taekwondo Education and its Reform Movement is standing up to contribute to that need as a historical calling.
